In recent years, Suffolk Wildlife Trust has been contacted
by around 250 landowners who are managing their land with the primary
aim of benefiting Suffolk's wildlife. We are able to respond to
such requests for information or advice through our Conservation
Advisory Service. A network of volunteer Conservation Advisors,
working on behalf of Suffolk Wildlife Trust, are able to carry out
site visits, helping landowners to assess the wildlife value of
the land and offering information and advice on conservation management,
habitat creation and possible sources of help such as grant aid.
We are now aware of over 200 'private nature reserves' (PNRs) scattered
throughout the county. We believe that these privately owned reserves,
which are largely undisturbed and support a range of semi-natural
habitats such as hedges, woodland, grassland and ponds are tremendously
valuable for a wealth of wildlife. Populations of declining species
are able to build up and in time will spread out to the wider countryside.
Each year we run a programme of open events and habitat management
workshops aimed specifically at landowners and publish a twice yearly
newsletter 'PNR News', available on this website. Please contact
us on 01473 890089 or at wildline@suffolkwildlifetrust.org
if you would like some advice on how to manage your land for wildlife
or would be interested in joining our network of PNR owners.
