Volunteering opportunities

Celebrating volunteers - Joy Woodall

Our volunteers are an essential part of our work, giving their time freely to make a difference for Suffolk's wildlife.

'After graduating from the University of Wales, Bangor, I initially trained as a secondary teacher, but after a break of ten years at home with my children, I switched to primary supply teaching.

We moved to Ipswich as a family over 25 years ago, and continue to be surprised and delighted by the diversity of the Suffolk countryside around us – Suffolk has a bit of everything!

When I decided to finish teaching in 2008, I wanted to do something completely different on a voluntary basis and volunteering with the Suffolk Wildlife Trust seemed the obvious choice.

I usually help out on reception at Ashbocking head office one day a week, answering the phone, preparing information for mailing out, photocopying, packing Christmas cards and orders, in fact anything that needs doing! This includes cutting out mountains of craft activities for the Suffolk Show and other events, together with other volunteers. Great fun!

I really enjoy working in a small office – a novelty for me! The staff at Ashbocking are a fantastic team to work with. Suffolk Wildlife Trust values its volunteers highly and offers excellent training. We are made to feel part of the organisation and working with other volunteers from all walks of life is very interesting.

For anyone with time on their hands looking to volunteer and be part of “The Big Society”, I can thoroughly recommend Suffolk Wildlife Trust. It’s one of the best.'
