Alde & Blyth wildlife group

What we do

We are a long-established and very active group, with a Committee of 10 and we organise many events, both indoors and outside. Our main aim is to raise funds for the Trust, while encouraging people to enjoy and learn about their local environment, wildlife and the work of the Trust.

We put on monthly indoor talks from September to April (except December), mainly on Suffolk-related topics, although we also have some talks based on more far-flung places. Topics have included the Suffolk Community Barn Owl Project, Bradfield Woods and Management of our Coast and Estuaries. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and catch up with old friends over coffee and biscuits.

Our outdoor events are mainly held from April to October, an exception being our very popular coach trip to a wildlife reserve each January. Other events have included several open gardens, a migration walk at Dingle Marshes and a winter wader walk at Sizewell Belts . We have also represented the Trust at outdoor events such as Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival and Benhall Flower Show.

We produce our own illustrated newsletter, Chat, which is distributed three times a year with the Trust magazine.

How you can help

It's always handy to have extra help with our events, or you could simply donate surplus plants to our plant sales or items for our prize draws. The important thing is for us to enjoy making a contribution, however occasional, rather than feel an obligation to make a regular commitment.
The easiest way to get involved and support our group and the Trust in general is to come along to our events. Who knows - it may lead to something else?
