Education and events volunteer

Location: Redgrave & Lopham Fen

We have a busy schedule of events and school visits throughout the year and are always looking for volunteers to lead and assist with these activities.

What you’ll be doing:

Primary schools make up the majority of our bookings during term times but all ages visit, from Nursery pupils to A-level students, no 2 days are ever the same! In the school holidays we run family mornings and children’s activity days and we also run events some weekends. A lot of work also goes on behind the scenes in planning, researching and making resources.

The skills you need:

You don’t have to have a teaching qualification, just a desire to share your enjoyment of nature with a captive audience!

What you’ll get out of it:

Working at Redgrave & Lopham Fen is very rewarding. You will be a part of a friendly team which will give you the chance to form new friendships, learn new skills and have a great time! You will also gain valuable experience teaching within a conservation organisation and learn a lot about the reserve and education centre.

As a member of the Redgrave education volunteer team you will also meet other volunteers and staff members within the Trust and learn more about the work of the Trust across the county (and of the Wildlife Trusts nationally).

The time you need to give:

Any time is great from a few hours to a full day! Timings are flexible to fit in with you and with the activities that are programmed. School groups and activity days last for a full day (10-3ish) and so volunteers wishing to help with them would need to be in all day.

Other information:

A DBS check may be necessary, depending on your responsibilities. Suffolk Wildlife Trust is committed to ensuring all individuals are aware of their role in safeguarding children whilst volunteering with the Trust. Child protection and SAFE training are also given where required.
