Fay Jones
Fen weaving & fibrecraft weekend
Redgrave & Lopham Fen National Nature Reserve,
Low Common Road, South Lopham, Diss, Suffolk, IP22 2HXAbout the event
You will spend Saturday making a selection of different fibres to create your own woven master work. Learn how to spin with spinning wheels and drop spindles using locally sourced fleeces. Hand twist natural cordage from elm and lime tree bast as well as stinging nettles and experiment with colouring them with natural pigments. Dye a range of pre-prepared fibres, to add extra colour and vibrancy to your work.
On Sunday you will receive expert weaving tuition using a table top loom. Be inspired by the Fen and weave all your fibres together to make your own beautiful artwork. This is a free weave session with no rules, so if you wish to add twigs, leaves or grasses into your weave it's up to you to explore your creativity.
This course is suitable for beginners.
Materials will be supplied, and tea, coffee and biscuits will be available and are included in the price. If you would like to bring any of your own yarns, buttons, beads or natural decorations to add into your weaving please feel free to do so.
You will need:
A packed lunch
A basket or trug
Notepad and pen
A camera if you wish
