News update – Knettishall Heath car parking charges

Knettishall Heath by Steve Aylward

From June this year, to address anti-social behaviour, we will be reintroducing car parking charges at Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve.

If you are visiting Knettishall Heath, please note we are reintroducing car parking charges at the main car park in order to tackle longstanding anti-social behaviour problems which have increased significantly in recent years. Despite all our efforts, these problems are now impacting on other visitors, our neighbours, staff and volunteers.

Any profits from the car parking will support our management of the reserve and its facilities for visitors. The charges will apply to non-members and members alike (due to VAT implications). We hope our regular local walkers will appreciate the free early morning parking.

  • Free parking between 5am and 10am
  • Between 10am and 9pm the charge will be £2 for up to 2 hours or £3 for all day.
  • Payment is by card or phone, it won't be possible to pay with cash.
  • Cark park closed from 9pm to 5am

Also, we will be introducing a catering van based at the heath, which will offer take-away hot and cold drinks and refreshments. This will be a great enhancement for visitors and hopefully make visits even more enjoyable for everyone.

At the end of last year, Suffolk Wildlife Trust received a grant from the government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund to support our West Suffolk Nature Triangle project.

Focusing on three nature reserves – Knettishall Heath, Lackford Lakes and Black Bourn Valley - the project will enrich these special places to make them even better for wildlife at the same time as enhancing visitors’ experience and fostering a deeper connection with nature.

The funding has meant that we now have a new Assistant Warden to ensure the special habitats here are managed to maximise their value to wildlife and two new visitor and catering assistants to ensure we can spend quality time with our visitors enabling them to connect to nature.
