Wildlife at Arger Fen & Spouse's Vale

A mosaic of wet, mixed deciduous and naturally regenerating woodland in the Dedham Vale AONB.


Nightingale, nuthatch, buzzard, sparrow hawk, bullfinch, skylark, cuckoo, siskin, woodcock, tawny owl and barn owl have all been recorded at Arger Fen.


The reserve contains important dormouse habitat, and also supports badger, yellow-necked mouse, woodmouse and pygmy shrew. Noctule, barbastelle, brown long eared, serotine, natterers and pipistrelle bats have been recorded in the woodland.

Slow worm, grass snake and common lizard have all been found here. Adder was once found here and we would welcome any records of recent sightings.
