Walking for hedgehogs

Thursday 1st December 2016

On Sunday 25 June 2017 we're delighted to announce that Suffolk Wildlife Trust will be taking part in the Orwell Walk. A Suffolk institution, the Orwell Walk takes a 25 mile route along the banks of the river Orwell, passing through stunning countryside - including our nature reserve at Trimley Marshes.

Participants on the walk, organised by the Rotary Club of East Ipswich, have been raising funds for worthy causes for many years. The Trust is hoping that walkers in 2017 will help to support our campaign to make Ipswich the most hedgehog friendly town in the UK.

Not only would we welcome support to help us raise funds for hedgehogs - we'd like you to welcome hedgehog champions to come along and walk with us.

If you're up for the challenge (the walk is 25 miles - but there are shorter alternatives) you can register to take part at: http://www.ipswicheastrotaryclub.co.uk/orwell-walk-run-and-cycle.html (if you register before the end of the year you can enjoy a discounted rate).

Registration fees are used by the Rotary Club to administer the walk and to make donations in support of charitable causes, so we'd urge as many people as possible to take part.

Once registered participants can choose if they would like to ask for sponsorship. Those who want to walk for hedgehogs can visit our hedgehog campaign on Just Giving and set up a fundraising profile.

If you don't want to take part in the walk, you can still help. Our very own Humphrey will be walking (slowly) and you can sponsor him through his very own Just Giving page.

Please let us know if you're planning to take part in the walk for hedgehogs as we'll be arranging a meet up area so we can all walk together, as well as special hedgehog treats for our best fundraisers. We've a feeling Humphrey may need all the help he can get!
