Course: Bush crickets & grasshoppers – for enthusiastic beginners
Date: Monday 8 September
Time
1.30pm-5pm
Details:

It’s not until late summer when the bush crickets are psst-psst’ing and chirping that one really comes across these jumping adults in rough grassland and hedgerow edge.  In Suffolk we have a dozen or so frequently occurring species and with a bit of practise, it is quite possible for beginners to find and identify them.  It is surprising therefore how few people actually send in records for this wildlife group.

This workshop will go through the basics of how to distinguish between bush crickets and grasshoppers, how to identify our commonly occurring Suffolk species, and spend some time discussing their life cycle and habitat requirements – and how you can manage grassland for them and other invertebrates that are often overshadowed by the more colourful plants and butterflies.
