How an international chess master is helping nature

International Chess Master, Dagne Ciuksyte, is putting the pieces in place to raise money for wildlife in Suffolk with a tournament in Martlesham.

Dagne Ciuksyte, chess player, coach and chess events organiser is returning to Martlesham with a chess tournament in support of Suffolk Wildlife Trust.

As an international Chess Master who represented Lithuania and later England in large official chess tournaments, Dagnes' love for chess is now helping wildlife and nature in Suffolk.

Dagne's next tournament event will be raising money for Suffolk Wildlife Trust. Hosted in St Michael & All Angels Church in Martlesham Heath, a stones throw away from Martlesham Wilds Nature Reserve, players of all levels of experience are welcome to take part.

If you are looking for an exciting afternoon of fast, friendly and competitive chess this event might be for you.

The 15th Martlesham Heath Chess Tournament is back on Sunday 22nd March 2026, and players of all ages and abilities are invited to take part. Whether you’re a confident club player or someone who only recently learned the basics.

A tournament with community at the heart, one of the most special things about this event is its purpose. By taking part, you’re not only sharpening your chess skills — you’re helping protect local habitats and wildlife.
