Suffolk Wildlife Trust celebrates half marathon success: £5,700 raised for local nature reserves

Runners supporting Suffolk Wildlife Trust completed the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon covering a cumulative 157 miles and raising nearly £6,000 for vital conservation work.

Suffolk Wildlife Trust is thrilled to announce the success of its inaugural running team in the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon, held on Sunday 21st September. Twelve passionate runners—ranging from seasoned athletes to first-time participants—took on the 13.1-mile challenge, united by a shared commitment to protecting Suffolk’s wildlife and wild places.

The team included representatives from local businesses okoHaus and Tingdene, alongside dedicated Trust staff and long-time supporters. Every runner crossed the finish line, cheered on by a wave of encouragement from the community.

They were also thrilled to sport fabulous green running shirts, kindly donated by local businessperson James Leach, from Impress Ipswich who said "Suffolk is our home - It’s where we live, work, and raise our families.

While our industry is making progress toward sustainability, there’s still a way to go. By backing Suffolk Wildlife Trust, we can take meaningful, visible action to support our environment and offset some of the challenges our industry is still working to overcome. "

To date, the team has raised just under £5,700, including Gift Aid, with donations still coming in. This incredible sum is enough to support 23 acres of nature reserve for an entire year, safeguarding vital habitats and contributing to climate resilience across Suffolk.

Patrick Goymer, a Suffolk Wildlife Trust trustee said this was “a tough but rewarding run on a gorgeous day. This was such a great finale to months of training and fundraising. Massive thanks to everyone who sponsored me and has helped make nature stronger in Suffolk.’

Sophie Flux, Senior Partnerships Officer and runner commentedI had a fantastic time running the Ipswich Half Marathon – and it was even more special knowing that so many of us were out there raising money for the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.  Every bit helps protect Suffolk’s amazing wildlife and wild places.  A huge thank you to everyone who laced up, cheered us on, or donated – it really made the day! Feeling very grateful and inspired after such a great event.”

Sophie Green (Marketing Manager at Tingdene) who completed the event in 2 hours and 43 minutes celebrated her achievements and her amazing fundraising total saying, “I’m super chuffed with my time and my fundraising!”

Suffolk Wildlife Trust's Partnerships Manager, Julie Long, shared their pride in the team’s achievement:

“This was more than a race—it was a statement of hope. Every runner, every donor, has helped secure a future for Suffolk’s wildlife. We’re so grateful to everyone who took part, supported, and donated.”

As photos of the team’s triumph begin to circulate, Suffolk Wildlife Trust anticipates even more support from the community. The Trust encourages anyone inspired by the runners’ efforts to contribute and help grow the impact even further.
