Foxburrow Nature Reserve, owned by Suffolk Wildlife Trust, will be selling a range of Scots Pine trees from week commencing December 8, with each sale going towards its vital conservation work.
The trees are felled each year to help protect scarce lowland heath, which makes for the perfect home for species like Nightjar and the threatened Dartford Warbler.
Emma Keeble, Engagement Officer and Forest School Trainer at the reserve near Woodbridge, said: “Each of these trees are used to decorate our Enchanted Eco Grotto – turning our reserve into a winter wonderland for families this Christmas.
“But with the event only lasting one weekend, we thought it would be great to give people the chance to decorate their homes with these beautiful trees too.
“Our reserves are home to some amazing wildlife, many of which rely on the lowland heath where these trees grow.
“Felling a small number not only gives those species the perfect habitat they’re looking for, but gives us the chance to raise vital funds to continue our conservation efforts.”
The trees will be available for sale for four days only, with visitors invited to find their perfect tree between 3pm and 4pm on Monday to Thursday.
Each tree can be purchased for a suggested donation of between £30 and £40, with every penny going back to Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
Trees can also be returned to the reserve after Christmas for use in dead hedges, offering shelter for a range of insects, birds and small mammals who call Foxburrow home.
Those looking to buy their Christmas tree can find Foxburrow Nature Reserve off Saddlemakers Lane, between Melton and Ufford. Tickets for the grotto have now ended and we look foward to welcoming families to the grotto this weekend.
