About the event
The last week of August 2025 will be Green Wood Week at Bradfield Woods. From Sunday 24th August to Sunday 31st August, you will be able to find Green Woodworkers demonstrating their skills and showing off their products in the purpose-built crafts area at Bradfield Woods, near the car park and visitor centre.
Green woodworkers use freshly-felled, unseasoned timber to make beautiful and useful items for the house and garden. They allow for the inevitable shrinkage and wood movement using traditional construction techniques developed over centuries and their razor-sharp tools leave a surprisingly smooth finish on soft, unseasoned timber. They use a variety of specialist, traditional tools, such as the froe, side-axe and drawknife, and some special devices that you won’t find in any other workshop; so if you’ve ever wondered what a cleaving brake is, or a shave-horse or a pole-lathe, and how these things are used, this event might be just right for you!
The Green Wood workshop at Bradfield will be open every day from 10:00 until 4:00 during the week, and there will be talks and demonstrations each morning and afternoon at 11:00 and 2:30.
Finished items made from local timber will be on display, with some items for sale. A portion of the proceeds of all sales will be donated to Suffolk Wildlife Trust
