About the event

Bury Literature Festival x Festival of Nature

The headlines about the climate crisis are relentless - and relentlessly dark. But is despair the only rational response? Environmental journalist Fred Pearce has spent decades reporting on ecological disaster. In Despite it All, he makes a surprising and rigorously evidenced case for hope.

This is not naive optimism. Fred doesn't ask us to look away from the scale of the challenge. Instead, he argues that hope - grounded in science, driven by action, and resilient in the face of setbacks - is not only possible but essential. An inspiring and energising event for anyone who cares about the future of the planet.
