Biodiversity Net Gain

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is an approach designed to leave biodiversity in a measurably better state after development than it was before. Suffolk Wildlife Trust offers BNG Units for sale, and also BNG surveys through our Ecological Consultancy.

What is Biodiversity Net Gain?

Biodiversity Net Gain - known as BNG - is a requirement for new building and infrastructure projects in England to leave the natural environment in a measurably better condition for nature than it was before the development began. 

Developers must deliver at least a 10% increase in biodiversity, and any habitat that is created or enhanced must be protected or maintained for at least 30 years.

BNG can be delivered on-site, by protecting or enhancing existing habitat on-site, or delivered off-site, by buying compensatory BNG Units on a site within the same county or out of county.
