We’re incredibly excited to be able to welcome the team from BBC Countryfile to Carlton Marshes. 

Tune in on Sunday 23^rd at 7pm on BBC 1 to see how we’ve transformed former arable fields to a wetland wonder, which is already attracting a brilliant array of wildlife. Carlton Marshes is an ambitious landscape-scale project which, as the gateway to the southern Broads National Park, is hugely important for connectivity to allow wildlife to move through habitats without hinderance. With a new visitor centre due to open in September, and a network of all-weather paths, this reserve will be one of the most accessible nature reserves in the country. All thanks to a £4.1 million Heritage Lottery grant, and a phenomenal fundraising effort by members and supporters. 

Presenter Margherita Taylor chats with our North East Suffolk Sites Manager, Matt Gooch, about Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s vision for Carlton Marshes and how important the reserve has been for local people during lockdown. Margherita and Matt also track down Chinese water deer - a introduced species that has found the perfect home here in the marshes. Gavin Durrant, photographer and volunteer at Carlton Marshes, explores how he is using a network of camera traps to watch for otters, and how he examines spraint to help build a picture of the general ecology of the reserve.
