Meet 30 Days Wild Champions, Benjamin & Emily

Emily and Benjamin raise a fantastic £300 for Suffolk Wildlife Trust during 30 Days Wild 2021

Four-year-old Emily and six-year-old Benjamin have raised £300 for Suffolk Wildlife Trust thanks to sponsorship from friends and family.

Rachel, Benjamin and Emily's Mum, says "This year was the 3rd year we’ve done 30 Days Wild, but the first year the children asked for sponsorship and excitedly planned out activities in advance themselves. They are already looking forward to next June!"

Usually, Lackford Lakes & Bradfield Woods act as local nature hubs for Benjamin, Emily and family. However, with so many reserves to explore, 30 Days Wild encouraged them to get out and about to reserves they had never been to before, including Knettishall Heath. Even simple things, like having a picnic offered a great opportunity to be immersed in nature and spend time in Suffolk's wild spaces.

As well as self-initiated activities such as litter picking (already one of Benjamin's favourite hobbies), the family took advantage of lots of activities Suffolk Wildlife Trust already ran, such as owl pellet dissections, pond dipping and the 30 Days Wild trails around the nature reserves. To document their adventures, Benjamin and Emily also created a fantastic scrapbook to look back on and show their classmates.

Rachel goes on to say "We all learned a lot, had a lot of fun and it gave all of us a greater appreciation for our local wildlife and wild spaces and the need to protect them.  I can’t speak highly enough of the 30 Days Wild initiative & hope it continues for many years to come."

Well done and thank you to our 30 Days Wild champions, Benjamin and Emily!
