Doing your bit for the climate locally
Climate change can feel overwhelming. But protecting nature where you live is one of the most powerful actions you can take right now.
What would Suffolk be to you without nature?
Nature is the bedrock for climate resilience. As The Wildlife Trusts explain in their climate strategy: “Restoring our natural environment will help to achieve both aims: reducing climate change and adapting to it.”
In other words, the recovery of nature is one of the most powerful climate solutions we have.
How we are fighting climate change with the help of our members
Suffolk Wildlife Trust is restoring nature across the county to protect wildlife and help tackle the climate crisis. Healthy habitats such as wetlands, peatlands, grasslands and woodlands naturally absorb and store carbon, helping to slow climate change while making our landscapes more resilient to extreme weather.
Across Suffolk, our teams manage 50 nature reserves covering around 2,900 hectares (7,100 acres) protecting habitats like wetlands, peatlands, grasslands and woodlands that naturally absorb and lock away carbon helping to slow climate change while making our landscapes more resilient to extreme weather. Protecting and restoring these habitats not only helps make our county more resilient to the effects of climate change but reduces flood risk and provides vital homes for wildlife.
But nature recovery cannot stop at the boundaries of reserves. That’s why Suffolk Wildlife Trust also works with farmers, landowners and communities to reconnect habitats across the wider landscape, linking river valleys, hedgerows and woodlands so wildlife can move and adapt as the climate changes.
We cannot do this without our members. When it’s hard to know how to make a difference, becoming a member and joining our community is one of the best ways you can take action.
By joining Suffolk Wildlife Trust, you’re helping restore habitats that store carbon, support wildlife and strengthen Suffolk’s resilience to climate change. You’re not just supporting a charity, you’re joining a growing local movement working to protect the place we all call home.
You can’t change the whole world. But you can protect your corner of it.
Join today and take real, local action for nature and the climate.
