Andy, our Lound Lakes Warden, was called out to relocate one of Lound Lake’s swans to safety this week. The bird had decided to patrol the approach road to the reserve, hissing at visitors to the lakes. It made for a curious sight as Andy was dressed up ready for his Lound Lakes volunteers’ Christmas lunch. 

Warden Rachel has been cutting skylark plots at Levington Lagoon this week. This involves cutting open areas as skylark need a short sward to nest in; we expect the birds to nest from March onwards. She was rewarded with gorgeous views of the estuary and flocks of waders passing by.

Our wonderful volunteers in North Suffolk helped build bat boxes this week. Bat boxes provide vital shelter for these wonderful mammals, as many of their natural roosting habitats such as ancient trees and old buildings have been lost. 

Winter mornings are just spectacular at Carlton Marshes, as these amazing photos by wardens Gavin and Lewis show. 

Snape Marshes also looked stunning in the winter sunshine this week. 

Last week the team at Foxburrow Farm recycled one of the Corsican pines which was left over from heathland management. This week our ‘go wild in the week’ session for home-educated children helped make natural decorations to complete the transformation.
