Izzi's fundraising marathon for wildlife!

Izzi

We are always touched to hear about people’s fundraising efforts towards Suffolk Wildlife Trust and we are so grateful to Izzi Reed who is running the Bungay half marathon on the 16th of April to help raise money for our new nature reserve, Martlesham Wilds.

Isabel was born and raised in East Suffolk and has grown up surrounded by the natural world, and has a deep appreciation of nature and wildlife. This led her to study geography at King’s College London, where she is in her final year.

Izzi saysI have always enjoyed running, but I have never been able to run as far as a half marathon (let alone a full marathon!) due to injury. Now I’m injury-free, with the right training, I’ll finally be able to complete a long-distance race to raise money for an environmental cause”

Izzi goes on to addWetlands are one of the most biodiverse habitats and have the ability to absorb and store carbon dioxide. They also provide us with “ecosystem services” such as flood and storm protection, erosion prevention, water purification and water storage. This means that creating wetland tackles environmental issues on both a local and global scale. For these reasons, I want to support the Suffolk Wildlife Trust in creating new wetlands"

"Martlesham Wilds represents a practical solution to environmental problems and climate change. I spent my childhood searching for insects under logs, learning the names of the common garden birds, and watching tadpoles become frogs, and I want other children to be able to enjoy Suffolk’s natural beauty as I did when I was a child. I was so excited when I learnt about the project to create more wetland in Suffolk. When I’m home, I’m only a short (electric) car journey away, so I’ll be able to see first-hand the development of the wetland and get involved. When Suffolk Wildlife Trust raises the money it needs to create the wetland, I’ll be there with a spade digging in my wellies!”

We wish Izzi the best of luck with her half marathon and for her final year at King’s College London.
