I’ve ended school visits on a high. The last school of this season finished on a moth session. It’s like they wanted to give me a great send off, and they did. They were a brilliant school and we managed to catch another couple of new beauts in the moth trap. The gorgeously golden fluffy oak eggar (top) and the canary-shouldered thorn (bottom). Moths are definitely my new guilty pleasure.

Moths aside however, the big event of this month- Latitude! What an absolute honour and privilege it was to be able to go along for the weekend and represent the trust again. There was so much to do for families and children at this festival, I couldn’t quite believe people were queuing to come and take part in our activities. What a fantastic way to introduce nature to such a diverse range of people. Schools day on Friday was a nonstop whirlwind of fun. The kids were really up for getting involved and made a great job of creating their nature journals in the enchanted woods and whipping up their willow jellyfish, before moving on to some minibeast hunting and lake dipping. We had some great finds too from baby toads in the woods to water scorpions and newt poles in the lakes. All in all it was a really rewarding (and don’t get me wrong exhausting) weekend. I would absolutely do it again - top tip for any future interns – don’t forget your ticket, you will have to drive home and get it...just saying!!!!
