UNITED FOR NATURE

Ask your local election candidates to take our pledge

Help us speak up for nature.

Local elections will be held on Thursday 7 May 2026 for Suffolk County Council and some areas of Ipswich. We’re calling on all the parties and candidates standing in these elections to commit to protecting and restoring nature.

Please help by asking your local election candidates to sign our election pledge. There are three simple steps:

  1. Find their local email addresses
  2. Write your email message
  3. Spread the word

1. Find your local candidates and their contact details

As many candidates have not published email addresses, the best way to get in touch with them is via their local parties.

Use the handy drop-down menus below to find the contact details for your part of Suffolk.

2. Use our template email to compose your message

Copy, paste, and edit the template from the drop down menu below to compose your message.

Please send your email to each candidate individually - you're much more likely to get a response. Also, please copy (cc) us in your email using: planning@suffolkwildlifetrust.org.

[Subject line: Please sign Suffolk Wildlife Trust's candidate pledge]

Hello,

I’m getting in touch ahead of the local election on 7th May to ask your local party and candidates to sign up to Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s United for Nature pledge to:

1. Support and encourage positive council decisions for nature

2. Stand up for our locally valued nature and wildlife

3. Support our communities to enhance their local natural environment and green spaces

You can find out more and sign the pledge here:

[Here you can say a bit about why nature matters to you, particularly in your local area. This will help to show candidates that nature is something that matters to people where you live. You might like to include information on your favourite local nature sites, why you value and enjoy nature and what it means for your health and wellbeing.]

Nature underpins our prosperity in Suffolk and the wellbeing of our people and communities. It provides us with everything from food and water to energy and recreation, and it’s vital for our thriving tourism industry that’s so important to our economy.

Allowing nature to be lost or damaged puts the things it provides us with at risk, making us all poorer. Protecting, restoring, and investing in nature on the other hand can deliver huge benefits: it can improve our health, protect homes and businesses from flooding, and support sustainable jobs and a resilient economy.

I hope you agree that protecting and restoring nature isn’t optional – it’s essential for a better future.

Please read the pledge and share it with your candidates to sign – here’s a reminder of the link: https://www.suffolkwildlifetrust.org/UnitedForNature/candidatepledge

If you have any questions you can contact the Suffolk Wildlife Trust team at planning@suffolkwildlifetrust.org.uk.

Best wishes,

3. Spread the word!

The more people who share their support for nature in the local elections, the greater chance we have to make nature a bigger priority in local politics.

Other things you could do:

  • Contact your local candidates directly: visit whocanivotefor.co.uk and enter your postcode to find the direct contact details of County Council election candidates in your area, and adapt the template email above to send them.

  • Share this page with your friends, family and colleagues: and anyone else you know who cares about nature and wants local government to do more to help wildlife and our natural environment.

  • Share your support on social media: download our campaign image (tap and hold, or right-click) and post it to social media to help spread the word for nature, and tag your local election candidates and parties.

Thank you for speaking up for nature!
