About the event

Listen to and capture the sounds at Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve as we move from the edge of night, to pre-dawn, and into the dawn chorus.

We hope to hear Chinese water deer barking eerily, owls hooting and screeching, with sedge warblers singing around first light. Then the cuckoos and the woodland and marsh birds will join in to the wonderful dawn chorus.

Experienced sound recordist and technician, Mike Challis, will bring along some of his high-end recording equipment for you to borrow, as well as bat detectors. Feel free to bring your own sound recording equipment if you have any.

We will go out around Spratt’s Water in the dark, then head out to the marshes, before retiring to the café for a well cuppa and pastries.
