My Naturewatch Camera- The Beers family

The Beers family nature watch week

26th July

Our ‘nature watch’ camera experience started on this day when Isla and I learnt how to make our own sensor camera at Lackford Lakes. I’m not the best with technology but Sophie led us through and we managed to do it!

4th August

Our week with the camera began on this day – we set it up as soon as we got home! Unfortunately the only animal activity we caught on camera on this day was out cat, Homer!

5th and 6th August

Nothing!?

7th August

Unluckily we also caught nothing on camera on this day, but did catch a toad on my phone camera later in the evening. (We would now like to get an infra-red camera to see what comes into our garden at night.)

8th August

We set the camera up before we went out for the day – as we did this we commented on how quiet it was in the garden, but thought nothing of it. When we came home in the afternoon we realised why it was so quiet, a sparrow hawk had taken out a pigeon and there were feathers everywhere! Unfortunately the camera had been facing the wrong way to capture any of this! We decided to put the camera in with our pet rabbits – Misty, one of our rabbits, took great interest and we got some real close ups!

9th August

Again, Homer was the only animal we captured on this day!

10th August

As we had been unlucky with capturing animals on the camera, Sophie kindly agreed that we could have the camera for a little longer. We had noticed that a pigeon was sitting on a nest in a tree in our garden so we securely (or so we thought) put the camera in the tree. We know we caught a few pictures on the camera but had not saved them in time before the camera crashed out of the tree!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience with the camera and it has inspired us on to become ‘Suffolk Wildlife Trust’ members, we have taken part in a butterfly count and also went on a junior botanical walk around Clare Country Park.
