About the event

Led by an experienced tutor, this Level 3 course, accredited by AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group is suitable for practitioners wishing to use the beach as a learning environment.

Location: Dunwich beach

Course dates: 28th - 31st July 2026

Suffolk's 50-mile stretch of heritage coastline is a natural resource on our doorstep. This course will provide teachers, support staff, outdoor educators and youth group leaders with the skills and confidence to make the most out of our beaches. 

Course consists of 4 units:

  • Keeping safe on the beach
  • Practical skills on the beach
  • Understanding the beach environment
  • Ocean connection

Areas of learning include:

  • Risk-benefit analysis
  • Understanding tides
  • Shelter, games and activities
  • Marine wildlife identification
  • Sustainability and marine conservation zones 

Practical skills will be assessed on the course, and the coursework will need to be submitted within the following 6 months. The qualification is 5 credits.

Entry Criteria

  • Participants should be over 18 years of age and have experience of working with young people

Course Cost: £495

What will I need for the course?

Please make sure you bring the following with you each day:

  • Packed lunch, a full water bottle, and snacks.
  • Suitable outdoor clothing for the weather conditions.
  • A notebook
  • A camera can be useful for recording some of the activities.

We will provide:

  • All required paperwork
  • All tools and equipment for the outdoor tasks

    (N.B. For a variety of reasons we would ask you not to bring your own tools)
