It's Hedgehog Awareness Week - Day 6

It's Hedgehog Awareness Week - a whole week dedicated to raising awareness about the threats hedgehogs face and the actions we can all take to help! 7 days, 7 top tips!

Day 6 - survey your garden for signs of hedgehog!

Want to confirm hedgehog activity in your garden? Now is the perfect time to try and here are a few ways to give it a go:

1) Look for hedgehog droppings on your patio or lawn. They are generally the size of your little finger, very dark and very textured - full of bits of beetle carapace! Check out the photo below for guidance.

2) Install a footprint tunnel into your garden for a week. Bait it with hedgehog food and see what footprints you can identify. Instructions for making one can be found here.

3) Install a trail camera! These are brilliant for unearthing the night time antics of hedgehogs and other nocturnal critters, and are now relatively affordable. Check out our YouTube channel to see some of the behaviours detected across Ipswich gardens so far.

Cameras and footprint tunnels are available for loan in Ipswich for free. Get in touch and remember to let us know about your hedgehog sightings by logging them on our online map, here.
