Conservation advice at Suffolk Wildlife Trust

Graham Hart - wildlife pond

Meet Graham, our Conservation Adviser. If you have a patch of land in Suffolk and would like to learn more about how to enhance it for wildlife, let us know.

I started work as the Conservation Adviser with Suffolk Wildlife Trust in November 2021 and I look after the County Wildlife Sites and Private Nature Reserves. I also work alongside our Community Wildlife Adviser on Churchyards. I have 20 years of conservation experience from a variety of voluntary roles with many different organisations. I specialise in bats, dormice and amphibians and hold a number of Natural England licences to work with protected species. I also have lots of experience carrying out surveys for otter and water vole. I chaired a Friends group at a Country Park for many years and currently sit on the committee of a number of wildlife groups. I have always had a passion for working with landowners to improve their land for wildlife.

In my role with the Trust, I am currently reviewing County Wildlife Sites, visiting them to check their condition, advising landowners on management and also assessing any potential new sites. I also respond to requests from private landowners and churches who would like advice on managing their land for wildlife. All these sites make a significant contribution to nature’s wellbeing and recovery across Suffolk providing important habitat connections across large and diverse landscapes.

I have a team of volunteers who help me provide support and advice. If you are interested in becoming part of our Private Nature Reserve network you can request a free visit from a Conservation Adviser. Please email the Trust at teamwilder@suffolkwildlifetrust.org or call on 01473 890089 (Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5.30pm).
