About the event
This refresher day has been organised for anyone delivering or assisting with Forest School that wants to practise or update their practical skills!
We will be covering basic fire lighting, discussing and experimenting with different fire lays, health and safety around fire use, different lighting techniques, including char cloth and natural tinder.
Explore different tools, cover safe use, transportation, PPE and application of all. Tools to include: bow saw, laplander, loppers, secateurs, palm drills, hand drills, peelers, knives, Froe. Including teaching of the six tool operations - cutting, sawing, drilling, splitting, whittling and carving.
This training day runs from 10am – 3pm in an outdoor setting.
What will I need for the course?
Please make sure you bring the following with you:
- Packed lunch, cup and snacks
- Suitable outdoor clothing for the weather conditions (trousers, not shorts)
- Stout shoes or boots. Please do not wear sandals.
- A camera or camera phone can be useful for recording some of the activities
We will be provide:
- Tea and coffee
- All tools and equipment for the outdoor tasks
(N.B. For a variety of reasons we would ask you not to bring your own tools)
