Mud runners raise £1,500 for Suffolk's wildlife

Nine runners go the 'Whole Hog' in mud run for Suffolk Wildlife Trust - raising over £1,500 to protect and restore nature.

On Sunday 5th October, a spirited team of nine runners braved mud, obstacles, and wild terrain to take on The Whole Hog challenge in Suffolk; all in support of our Mission 2030 campaign to bring back nature

Six participants came from law firm at Birketts and were joined by three staff members from the Trust, forming a united front of nature lovers ready to tackle the course head-on.

Together, the group raised over £1,500, a remarkable achievement that translates into safeguarding more than six acres of nature reserve for an entire year - helping to protect Suffolk’s precious wildlife and habitats for generations to come.

“Wow, it was muddy!” said Andy Wright, Facilities Manager at Suffolk Wildlife Trust. “Mud found its way into places you didn’t think were possible. I was happy we did it for the Trust and managed to raise a few pennies along the way!”

Ben Staples, from Birketts commented “We had great fun. Extremely wet, muddy, dirty, etc. but a really good laugh and I’m happy we were able to raise a good amount in the end.”

Dan Payne, Wilder Communities Officer for the Trust added “It was VERY muddy, but there were water obstacles toward the end that washed a good amount off! A worthy cause and fun to do.”

The Whole Hog is known for its challenging course, combining physical endurance with plenty of fun — from crawling through tunnels to wading through water. The runners’ determination and teamwork shone through, reflecting their shared commitment to protecting Suffolk’s natural heritage.

Our Partnerships Manager, Julie Long, commented: “We have been thrilled at the number of people throwing themselves into challenges this year in support of nature. The Whole Hog team are a splendid example of amazing people, achieving amazing things, whilst having a brilliant time in nature. Thank you to everyone involved and to everyone who sponsored and supported them, and of course to our shirt sponsor Impress Ipswich.”

A huge thank you to the Birketts team for their incredible effort and generosity. Every pound raised helps ensure that wild spaces across the county remain safe havens for wildlife and places of inspiration for people.
