Comma butterfly by Derek Moore

The sun brings the butteflies!

This morning, volunteer Paul completed a butterfly transect.  He recorded 95 different butterflies whilst doing this.

The most abundant one was ringlet with 48 individuals being seen.  The others were as follows:  14 small skipper, 18 small white, 5 comma, 2 gatekeeper, 6 meadow brown and 2 small heath.

There will be even more on the reserve at the moment, these figures just represent what was seen on the transect.

The sun is also bringing out the dragonflies and damselflies (these have been amazing this year) - plenty of brown hawker and emperor dragonfly.
