About the event

A night full of nocturnal activities for everyone to enjoy. Arrive at Carlton Marshes and be greeted by our friendly team who will guide you through the activities on offer during the evening including:

  • Owl Pellet Dissection: What did the barn owl eat for tea? Have a look at what's left behind in an owls pellet, from skulls to beetles wings. There's some gruesome things to be found.
  • Bat Detectors: What bats can you find on the marshes? Join one of our volunteers who will guide you through how to use a bat detector and help identify what bats can be found flying around us.
  • Moth Trapping: Let's catch some moths! Come and have a look at our moth traps in action and see what moths we find
  • Stargazing: Layout and see what stars you can find. One of our experienced volunteers will be on hand to guide you through the constellations. Search with a telescope and see what planets are in view.
  • Lantern Making: Bring along an empty jar to decorate and create a lantern to guide you on the rest of the trail.
  • Spooky storytelling: Cosy up and listen to tales of nocturnal animals by torchlight.
  • Campfire: Purchase a Smores kit from the visitor centre and enjoy toasting marshmallows over an open fire.

Please bring a torch with you as most activities will be outside in the dark. Also wrap up warm and wear shoes appropriate for walking around the reserve.
