Introduction to wildflower ID
Mellis Common Nature Reserve,
Mellis Common, Mellis, Diss, Suffolk, IP23 8DWAbout the event
Local botanist, Marie Lagerberg will cover the basics of plant anatomy, introduce plant families and look at some of the tools available to help the amateur botanist identify the flowers around them.
After a fascinating morning in Mellis Memorial Hall, you will take a walk onto the common to look at some of the flowers on site and use your newfound skills to identify them. The course will conclude by looking at plant identification in its wider context and how it can bring both personal satisfaction and support conservation efforts e.g by submitting identification records and understanding, valuing and protecting flower habitats.
Marie Lagerberg was introduced to wild flowers on walks with her mother. More recently she has established a 1.5 acre wild flower meadow, which is entering it’s 7th flowering season. She has completed a Field Studies Council & BSBI Plant Identification Course and is a member of the Bungay Botany group.
